After a 3 hour car ride to the Oakland airport, a 11 hour flight to London, then a 7 hour layover in London followed by a 2 hour flight to Madrid we finally made it. It was a long day but the kids did really good and I think I only snapped at them a couple of times, they may say different!

I will be honest I was worried about the distance we were traveling and also getting to our apartment with 7 pieces of luggage, 4 backpacks and 6 people would be difficult. Our landlord Maribel set up a car service for us and to my surprise he showed up with a giant van that had no problem fitting our luggage, backpacks and our sweet tired family.

We arrived at the apartment at 1:00am Madrid time and her son David was there to great us with keys and some direction. Mainly we just need to know how to get on the wifi signal, you know priorities. ¬†We ended up going to bed around 3:30am after we unloaded our suitcases. Trying to adapt to a 9 hour time change difference is really difficult. It’s is 12:30am here as I am writing and I can still hear my little boys talking and laughing, well that’s what I envision, I am sure it’s wrestling and teasing.

When we finally rolled out of bed around 12:30 we got dressed and headed straight to a grocery store. We bought a few essentials and this small trip has made us realize English is not spoken very much out of the city center. My high school Spanish has kicked into full gear, which means I should have studied more and tried to actually learn the language.  Nevertheless the people have been really nice so far and we are excited to explore this area while we are here.
