We Are Not On Our Journey Alone

It is true that everyone has a story and everyone is on a journey. When our paths intersect, it is important to take a moment and learn about each other’s story.  It is easy to make assumptions about people. We do so knowingly and unknowingly. With intention and without intention. With thought and without thought. It is only through opening yourself and your hearts to people who may be different than you that you learn about yourself.

Over the years I have been a mentor to a lot of very special young men and women. They have been very different in ages, ethnicities, religions and economic backgrounds. But despite out differences we have learned so much from each other. As I tried to be a friend, confident and cheerleader to inspire, motivate and share experiences and wisdom, I found that I learned a lot from each of them.

There is a lot more about us that is shared rather than different.  Love, trust, acceptance, respect are only a few of the things that we all need and seek and the fact is – all of these things are free and can be freely given.  It’s only when we choose to withhold these things that we find ourselves struggling to make the journey alone.  Since you get to choose, why not make the choice to be more loving, trusting, accepting and respectful?
