The thing about butterflies is they make you smile. I have seen a lot of butterflies lately. In a movie the other night, one of the characters was in the jungle in South America and when he stepped into a small clearing and was immediately surrounded by a cloud of beautiful butterflies dancing around his body. I was looking through an old magazine and there was an ad in black and white that had a beautiful colorful butterfly floating through a crumbling community toward a beautiful flower growing through a crack in the sidewalk. I don’t remember what product it was advertising but I remember the butterfly.
There’s something hopeful about the butterfly. We all know about its journey from being encased in a chrysalis and struggling to emerge as such a thing of beauty. We are all butterflies in some way. I don’t know when we will finally emerge fully but I do know that we are already amazing beings of beauty and wonder. We just need to take a breath, listen to each other, talk to each other, understand each other, really see each other and allow each other to be who we truly are.
