Mother’s Day has always been a special day for many of us. Like many others, my mom is no longer with me. I remember her and miss her immensely each and every day. She was my friend, confidant, biggest cheerleader and supporter. She was always completely honest with me and did not hold back in sharing her opinion. I don’t let the absence of her physically in my life get me down because I know she led a wonderful life full of love, family, friends and her truth. The best way to honor her and any one you have lost is to live the life she wanted me to live and continue to feel her pride in how I did it.
Before she died, she gave me her diamond tennis bracelet and her engagement ring. I wear one or both of them every day. To me it is a like having her hand holding mine and saying “You can do it” each and every day. I recently returned from being out of the country for a week. While at the airport waiting for my connecting flight, home I remembered that there would be no message from her waiting for me. You see, whenever I went away – whether traveling for work or pleasure – before I left she would always ask “When do you get back? What date? What time?” After this happened a few times, I told her to not worry since I would call her as soon as I got back. She replied that she wasn’t worried. She just wanted to be the first voice I heard when I checked voice messages saying “Welcome home. Glad you came back safe.” I do listen to my messages when I get home every time I travel and you know what? The most important one I hear is only in my heart because I am sure even now she is welcoming me home. Happy Mother’s Day!
