Many of us spend our lives chasing money as a means to happiness thinking that the more we have the happier we will be. Yes, we all need money to survive in this world but money is not what makes us rich nor is it what makes us truly happy.
You ever wonder why many of those among us with the least are able to inspire and amaze us by their resilience and positive outlook on life? How can the child whose only meals each day comes from the free school lunch program go out on the playground and laugh and play with the other children? How can the homeless person who sleeps in the park offer his last bit of change to a passing stranger who seems to be hungrier than he is?
When we put materials riches above all else and let how much we have define us and change us, we lose. We lose our sense of self and our need to look within ourselves and others for riches that cannot be quantified.
A better way to be rich? Think about these –
Real – be yourself. There is only one you and no one can do it better. You have everything you need to be an original so why try to be like someone else?
Inspire – encourage and uplift those around you to be their best and by doing so you may just make someone else’s life that much better, that much brighter, that much happier even if only for that moment. It may be just what they needed.
Curious – never lose your sense of curiosity. If we are curious about ourselves, our world and others around us, we continue to learn and grow. No matter how old we are we should try to never lose that childlike sense of wonder along with laughter.
Hope – be hopeful. No matter how bad things seem we should always remember – it could be worse. If you lose all hope you lose your sense of self and allow others to determine who you are and what you can be. Then how can you be awesome you?
