“It’s all about getting outside of your comfort zone. Until you do, you’ll never know what you’re capable of.”
Dwyane Johnson, actor, as Spensor Strasmore in “Ballers”
Every so often we should take a look at ourselves and decide whether we want to stay with the status quo because it’s
“comfortable” or if we are ready to take a risk and step outside of that comfort zone and see just what else we can do. This applies to every aspect of our lives and even our beliefs.

Take exercise. I have always been a power walker seeking to get as many steps as I can each day and staying fit physically and mentally through the exercise. However, this year I decided to shake things up, so I added biking and rollerblading to my workouts. Now, at least 6 of 7 days a week, I still walk but on several of those days I am combining it with either biking or rollerblading to shake things up. Muscles that I thought I was working with just walking are waking up and nudging me saying “you needed this change.”

My bike had been hanging in the garage in my garage since it was hung there almost 3 years ago, and my rollerblades were never replaced after they were stolen probably 15 years ago. I bought another pair along with pads and hit the paths. It all came back to me – after a few turns at each I am biking and rollerblading with the best of them and I love it. About the rollerblades at 68, I’ve been asked “Why”? To which I respond, “Why not?”
With anything in life, we all settle into a pattern of habits or rituals. Be it work, relationships, families, anything you are dealing with that makes you feel stuck or uninspired – find a way to change up something. Making a change or changes, big or small – just doing something different may be just what you need. Maybe not a new job but a different position. Maybe not another night home alone watching Netflix but venturing out and making new friends. Maybe not waiting on an old friend to call you and apologize but picking up the phone and arranging to talk about it. Who knows what’s next?
Great post!!! Living in comfort zones is not living…
Thank you!
