How many times have we said there are not enough hours in the day? Think about it. There are 60 seconds in every minute. Sixty minutes in every hour. Twenty-four hours in every day. Seven day in every week and fifty-two weeks in every year. Hour after hour, day after day, week after week and year after year the cycle repeats itself. That said, we still get frustrated at times and feel that there are not enough hours in a day. Do we set ourselves up to be overwhelmed every day? How we choose to use the time given to us in each day is up to us.

Many times we just cram so many things into a given day that it is impossible to even think we can get it all done in one day. We are setting ourselves up to be disappointed and to feel a lack of control and accomplishment. Most importantly, we do not leave any time during the day for self-care which now is more crucial than ever. We become the least important person in our allocation of our time.
If you do not make you a priority no one else will. This is not selfish. This is survival and preservation of self. How can you be the best version of yourself when you do for yourself as you do for others?

When we are overwhelmed by the number of things we did not get done in a given day we do not allow ourselves to acknowledge and feel good about that which we have accomplished – no matter how large or small.
Make a list! Include the things large and small that you need to accomplish in a given day and then at the end of the day review the list and give yourself credit for those things that you accomplished.
Be realistic with the list and set a few tasks that you know you should be able to complete – make your bed, shower and dress – just changing from your pajamas sets the tone for the day. Do not feel bad that you cannot exercise for an hour – try to do so in 10-15 minute breaks several times a day. If you are home being an employee, Mom/Dad, teacher, therapist, partner, spouse, cook, housekeeper and more, these things are more important than ever. Find a quiet spot and try to schedule at least 5 minutes of quiet time for reflection and thought. Gradually increase it to 15 minutes, if you can. At the end of the day write on your chalk board or your post-it for the day at least one thing for which you are grateful. There is good in every day. It is important to see it, acknowledge it, say it out loud and believe it. Believe in awesome you and make time your friend!
